Mastering Regular Expressions
Author:
Jeffrey Friedl
ISBN:
0596528124
RegEx is not an easy topic and this book does cover it in depth but it is a frustrating read. The flow is tough, the examples disjointed, too wordy in some spots, too terse in others. Good reference, not so fun to read.
Inside the Microsoft® Build Engine: Using MSBuild and Team Foundation Build (PRO-Developer)
Author:
Sayed Ibrahim Hashimi
ISBN:
0735626286
This is an absolute MUST have book! Fantastic info on using msbuild and the build engine! Tasks, Logging, Batching, overriding properties, metadata, oh my oh my! Best book I've read in a long time!
Microsoft® Windows PowerShell(TM) Step By Step (Step By Step (Microsoft))
Author:
Ed Wilson
ISBN:
0735623953
Not a book to help you port your CMD skills over, but it has good info on WMI, Active Directory and has some ADO examples that give you insight on using COM objs in PS. Lots of fluff but worth the read.
Introducing Microsoft Silverlight 2.0, 2nd Edition
Author:
Laurence Moroney
ISBN:
073562528X
I've been searching for a book on practical SL dev. This book meets the mark about half way. A full half is about graphics and the remaining half is useful. It does cover some interesting items such as working with JSP, Ruby and others. Its worth your time
Foundation Expression Blend 2: Building Applications in WPF and Silverlight (Foundation)
Author:
Victor Gaudioso
ISBN:
1590599764
This is book was a dissappointment. It's for absolute beginners. It's basically a 'Welcome to the Blend IDE'. The most you will learn from this book is how to spin some text and how to customize the look of a button. Waste of cycles for me.
Windows(R) PowerShell Unleashed
Author:
Tyson Kopczynski
ISBN:
0672329530
There is NOTHING 'Unleashed' about this book's coverage. This is a pitiful excuse of a book calling itself unleashed. The PowerShell for Dummies book coveage is leaps and bounds beyond this book. I want my 4 hours back.
CLR via C#, Second Edition (Pro Developer)
Author:
Jeffrey Richter
ISBN:
0735621632
Another top notch book from JR. This book is no fluff, it's readable and usable from cover to cover. Great stuff on his APM ideas. Definitely deserves your reading time!
JavaScript for Dummies
Author:
Emily A. Vander Veer
ISBN:
0764576593
Now I know I'm not that familar with javascript, but come on! This book is sooooo verbose. You could throw away the first HALF of the book and loose nothing. I wouldn't recommend this book even for a beginner.
Essential ASP.NET With Examples in C# (Microsoft .NET Development Series)
Author:
Fritz Onion
ISBN:
0201760401
This is a fantastic look into ASP.NET from a C# developers point of view. It's succinct and well written. Unlike Esposito’s book, it’s to the point. Fritz wrote this after ASP.NET 2.0 had just come out and does distinguish between the two in most places
Microsoft Windows Workflow Foundation Step by Step (Pro Step By Step Developer)
Author:
Kenn Scribner
ISBN:
073562335X
WF is a long anticipated technology but it has been designed to be so flexable that knowing just how to use it can be tough. This book clarifies WF and how best to use it AND it's an easy read! Well worth a spot on your shelf!
Microsoft Windows PowerShell Programming for the Absolute Beginner
Author:
Jerry Lee Ford Jr.
ISBN:
1598633546
If you want to learn PowerShell this is a great book to start with. It covers all of the basics and gives you a taste of the real power in PowerShell. This one deserves a very reachable place on your shelf!
Head First C# (Brain-Friendly Guides)
Author:
Andrew Stellman
ISBN:
0596514824
This book may seem almost toyish, but don't let it fool you, the Head First books are written with a pattern that makes for a fun read and helps you remember! It is a complete learning experience covering OOP, C#, Visual Studio IDE, and even the new stuff
Applied Microsoft® .NET Framework Programming (Pro-Developer)
Author:
Jeffrey Richter
ISBN:
0735614229
I would be remiss if I didn't put this book on the list. If you're serious about .Net development, you have to have this book on your shelf. Richter knows is stuff and you can see it in the detail of the information he presents! Great reference!!!
Inside C#, Second Edition
Author:
Tom Archer
ISBN:
0735616485
If you're new to C#, then this book is a 'Must-Have' reference. It's reading style is clean and easy and the flow is well thought out. Even if you're familar with C#, the sections on Security or running unmanaged code will still be enlightening.
Professional Team Foundation Server
Author:
Jean-Luc David
ISBN:
0471919306
I believe that VSTS is the most important advance in the VS history. However, like most books, this book tries to just hit the high points. Not enough depth but would give you a good first look. We need the authors to start specializing in ea pc of vsts
A Developer's Guide to SQL Server 2005 (Microsoft .NET Development Series)
Author:
Bob Beauchemin
ISBN:
0321382188
You could not get a better book on SQL Server 2005 development Bob and Dave and done a fantastic job with this book. The only problem you'll have with this book is carrying it! The paperback version comes in at a whopping 3.4 lbs and 1088 pages. Get it!
Pro Visual Studio 2005 Team System Application Development (Pro)
Author:
Steve Shrimpton
ISBN:
159059682X
Probably the best book that I've read so far on the Team System. Well worth your time to read it. You'll find yourself referring to it.
